Lors de l'incident du Berceau, il tente de découvrir ce qui se cache derrière la soi-disant « maladie » des Japonais, sans en informer May. Ses recherches l'amènent à rencontrer le célèbre docteur Faust, qui parvient à débarrasser May de ses symptômes. Johnny cherche toujours à soigner les autres victimes de cette affection.

Leader delle Piratesse Jellyfish. È un maestro nell'arte della spada Hirofumi Style. È molto noto nel suo giro e la sua reputazione da donnaiolo lo precede. Salva i bambini rimasti orfani (solo se di sesso femminile) a causa della guerra e li porta a bordo della sua nave. È un fuorilegge riconosciuto ovunque, ma vive secondo il motto "Aiuta i deboli e sconfiggi i forti", che lo ha reso popolare tra le masse.

Johnny è un tipo alla mano che è sempre pronto a reagire, e quando il gioco si fa duro è senza dubbio l'uomo che ci vuole. Non importa quanto sia difficile la situazione, perché lui non perde mai la calma e riesce spesso a spezzare la tensione con una battuta arguta. Le Piratesse Jellyfish sono la sua famiglia e afferma spesso che la loro sicurezza è più importante della sua vita.

Quando un Gear gli uccise il padre davanti agli occhi, Johnny rimase completamente solo. Desiderava tanto essere amato quanto lo era stato suo padre, e decise che avrebbe raggiunto i suoi obiettivi diventando un pirata. Da allora viaggia per il mondo per trovare e proteggere altri bambini orfani... gente come April e May. Nel complesso, i membri del suo equipaggio lo vedono come una figura paterna... anche se qualcuna spera in qualcosa di più... intimo.
Le Piratesse Jellyfish non si fanno scrupoli a infrangere la legge, cosa che fanno regolarmente per proteggere chi non viene protetto dalla stessa. Nonostante siano delle fuorilegge, hanno una vasta rete di amici e conoscenti che va dal Primo Sovrano Ky Kiske al presidente di Zepp Gabriel. Esiste una regola non detta e poco conosciuta tra le Piratesse Jellyfish: gli uomini non sono ammessi... a parte Johnny, ovviamente.
Durante l'Incidente della Culla, Johnny cercò di scoprire i segreti della cosiddetta "malattia" che colpì la popolazione giapponese, senza rivelare a May i suoi piani. Durante le indagini, incontrò il famoso dottor Faust, che riuscì a invertire con successo i sintomi di May. Johnny sta ancora lavorando duramente per aiutare a curare i sintomi di altre vittime.
