Marehound
Marehound is a minor character in the Guilty Gear series. It is a boss monster encountered in the third and fourth stages of Guilty Gear Judgment's third area and a playable character in Guilty Gear RoA.[1]
Design
Marehound is a large canid monster with red fur across its face, neck, upper legs, and tail, and shorter black fur on its torso, skull, and lower legs. Two skeletal wings sprout from its back, bound tight to its body by several belts and unable to open fully. Its mouth and tail are also tied with belts.
After being defeated by the player character, Marehound undergoes a transformation: its body is set ablaze and becomes wreathed in flame, the tethers binding it are burned away, and its wings fill out with fiery feathers.
Personality
As a man-made experiment, Marehound has a bestial temperament[2] and is indiscriminately violent, capable only of attacking everything in sight.[3]
Story
The player character, seeking Raymond, breaches the depths of his secret laboratory within Ksanaka. Raymond flees ahead of their arrival, leaving Marehound behind to slow the player character down.[4] When the player character enters the Ksanaka's inner sanctum, Marehound attacks, forcing them to defeat it. After the battle, the player character finds a logbook dropped by Raymond that details his experiments on the people of Isene. From this book, the player character discovers that Raymond has fled to the Tower of Wind.
As they leave the laboratory, Marehound reappears, now enraged and cloaked in flame, and chases the player through a magma-filled cavern. At the end of this chase, the player character attacks and defeats Marehound once more, this time seemingly killing it.[4]
Abilities
Marehound fights with its teeth and claws and bludgeons opponents with the sides of its skeletal wings. After its transformation, it gains the ability to fly as well as control over fire: in this form, it is able to spit balls of fire and wreathe itself in flames to attack.
