Noel is an enemy encountered in Guilty Gear Judgment. She acts as the boss fight of Ashnay, Judgment's second area.

Design

Noel has the upper body of a human woman, with pale skin and dark hair tied into a messy bun. Vines curl around her waist and left arm, and two yellow flowers sprout from the inner elbow of her left arm and her head respectively. She has two pale blue wings on her back, shaped like a butterfly's but with a featherlike texture. She wears a slightly-tattered seafoam green dress with a slit in one side, and a veil of the same color trails behind her. Starting from the upper thigh, her human form gives way to a mass of plant life. Her lower half is composed of tangled vines resembling the trunk of a tree, with two large corpse flowers (Rafflesia arnoldii) growing on either side of her. Six large undulating vines, resembling tentacles, erupt from the ground in a circle around her.

When defeated, her wings and hair rot away, her dress and veil become significantly more tattered, and her human half rapidly withers until she's little more than skin and bones.

Personality

Nothing is known of Noel's personality before being transformed. As a bio war machine she is in deep agony to the point that she is grateful to be killed. According to I-No she wears a helpless and miserable expression on her face,[1] and Faust claims to be able to hear her pleading for salvation.[2]

Story

Noel was originally a resident of the island nation of Isene. At some point prior to the player character's arrival, she was kidnapped by Raymond to be experimented on.[3] He forcibly fused her with a monster from the other world to create a bio war machine, then placed her at the entrance to his underground research lab to act as a guardian.[4] When encountered within the Ashnay ruins she is visibly suffering and indiscriminately hostile. The circumstances causing the fight depend on the the character being played as—some, such as S-Ko in Zappa's route, want to put her out of her misery;[5] others, like Bridget act in self-defense;[6] and some attack for their own reasons, like I-No finding sadistic enjoyment in the monsters' suffering[1]—but all defeat her.

Upon being defeated, she uses her last moments to thank the player character for killing her before rapidly withering away.

Abilities

Though unable to move her lower half, Noel can control plants to protect herself. She is surrounded by a ring of vines erupting from the ground that must be cleared away before she can be attacked. She also uses plants offensively in a variety of ways: she can summon rows of thorns that stab rapidly upward, create mobile and carnivorous corpse flowers that will chase the player character down and drain their health to restore Noel's own, and can summon pink flowers into her hands whose petals damage the player character. In addition to her plant-related abilities, she is able to emit shockwaves of electrical energy that pulse out a short distance from her body.
