백야드로 바이패스하는 성질이 있으며, 올바르게 기능시키면 무한한 에너지를 끌어낼 수 있다.
소체가 된 생물 본래의 각 기관 세포와 융합하여 그 기관이 가진 본래의 기능을 다 할 뿐만 아니라, 다양한 세포 활성화를 일으킨다.
일례로서, 단순한 근력증강이나 세포 재생력(세포 분열 속도)의 경이적 상승 등을 꼽을 수 있다. 이들의 경이적인 능력은 인류를 병에서 구원할 의료용 기술을 목적으로 개발되었으나, 훗날 군사용으로 변모하게 되었다….
현재 기어라 불리는 생명체들은 예외 없이 이 기어 세포를 체내에 보유하고 있다. 그 남자가 만들어낸 기어 세포 중 오리지널에 가까운(감수분열의 횟수가 적은 단계에서 이식된) 세포를 보유하고 있는 것은 프로토타입인 「솔」과 실용화 제1호인 「저스티스」. 그리고 저스티스의 딸인 디지와 그 아들 신이다.

ギア計画の要となった幹細胞。
21世紀にあの男によって基礎理論が完成、やがて実用化可能な段階まで研究が進められた。
バックヤードへバイパスする性質を持っており、正しく機能させることで無限のエネルギーを引き出すことが出来る。
素体となった生物本来の各器官の細胞と融合することで、その器官が持つ本来の機能を全うするだけでなく、様々な細胞活性を引き起こす。
一例として単純な筋力増強や細胞再生力（細胞分裂の速度）の驚異的上昇などが挙げられる。これらの驚異的な能力は、人類を病から救う医療用技術を目的として開発されていたが、後に軍事利用へと変貌していってしまった…。
現在、ギアと呼ばれている生命体は例外なくこのギア細胞を体内に有している。あの男が創りだしたギア細胞の内、オリジナルに近い（減数分裂の回数が少ない段階で移植された）細胞を有しているのは、プロトタイプである「ソル」と実用化第一号となった「ジャスティス」。そして、ジャスティスの娘であるディズィーとその息子のシンである。

Gear cells are a special type of stem cell and are the focus of the Gear project. The basic theory was completed in the 21st century by That Man, and research quickly moved toward practical applications.
Gear cells have the unique ability to tap directly into the Backyard. Under optimal circumstances, they can supply themselves with almost infinite energy in this way. Integrating these cells into one's organs will vastly improve the function of those organs and induce several other sorts of cellular activity.
It is observed that subjects imbued with the Gear cells experience enhanced muscular strength and rapid regeneration.
Although the Gear project was initially kickstarted to cure terminal diseases worldwide, it didn't take long for power-hungry nations worldwide to use it for military applications.
Beings that carry any amount of Gear cells within them are called "Gears." The original Gear cells, which are created by That Man and are replicated the least, are currently within the prototype Gear, Sol; the first "complete" Gear, Justice, Justice's daughter, Dizzy; and Dizzy's son, Sin.

Gear-Zellen haben die einzigartige Fähigkeit, direkt den Backyard anzuzapfen. Unter optimalen Bedingungen können sie sich auf diese Weise nahezu unbegrenzt mit Energie versorgen. Durch das Einsetzen dieser Zellen in die Organe einer Versuchsperson wird nicht nur die Funktion der jeweiligen Organe erheblich verbessert, sondern es werden auch verschiedene andere Arten von Zellaktivitäten ausgelöst.
Die Muskelkraft einer Versuchsperson könnte erhöht oder ihre Regenerationsfähigkeit beschleunigt werden – das würde bedeuten, dass sich Zellen replizieren und Organe sofort heilen. Das Projekt wurde ursprünglich in der Hoffnung begonnen, mithilfe dieser Zellen auf der ganzen Welt unheilbare Krankheiten zu heilen. Es dauerte jedoch nicht lange, bis machthungrige Nationen die militärischen Anwendungsmöglichkeiten erkannten.
Alle Kreaturen, die als „Gears“ bezeichnet werden, besitzen eine gewisse Anzahl an Gear-Zellen. Die reinsten Gear-Zellen – also die Zellen, die sich seit ihrer Erschaffung durch That Man am wenigsten repliziert haben – befinden sich in Sol, dem Prototyp, in Justice, der ersten „vollständigen“ Gear, sowie in ihrer Tochter Dizzy und in Dizzys Sohn Sin.
Las células Gear tienen la habilidad única de abastecerse directamente del Patio Trasero y en circunstancias óptimas pueden obtener una energía casi infinita. Al integrar estas células en los órganos de un sujeto, la función orgánica no solo mejorará ostensiblemente, sino que también inducirán otros tipos de actividad celular.
Puede que algunos sujetos experimenten un aumento de la fuerza muscular o la capacidad de regeneración rápida (cuando las células se multiplican y los órganos se curan casi instantáneamente). Al principio, el proyecto se inició con la esperanza de que estas células curaran enfermedades terminales por todo el mundo, pero no pasó mucho tiempo antes de que los países codiciosos de poder se plantearan sus aplicaciones militares.

Le sujet peut observer une amélioration de sa force musculaire ou de sa vitesse de régénération, car ces cellules se répliquent et soignent presque instantanément l'organisme. À l'origine, le projet avait pour objectif de produire des traitements contre les maladies les plus graves, mais rapidement, les États avides de pouvoir commencent à en percevoir les applications militaires.
Toutes les créatures qualifiées de « Gear » contiennent au moins quelques cellules de Gear. Les plus pures (celles qui ont été le moins répliquées depuis leur création par That Man) se trouvent dans le prototype, Sol, dans la première Gear « complète », Justice, sa fille, Dizzy, et le fils de Dizzy, Sin.

L'integrazione di queste cellule negli organi di un soggetto non solo ne migliorerà notevolmente le funzioni, ma indurrà inoltre numerose altre tipologie di attività cellulare.
Un soggetto potrebbe notare una maggiore tonicità muscolare o una rapida rigenerazione dei tessuti, con le cellule in grado di replicare e rigenerare organi quasi istantaneamente. Il progetto fu inizialmente avviato con la speranza che queste cellule potessero curare malattie terminali, ma non ci volle molto prima che nazioni assetate di potere notassero le evidenti applicazioni militari.
Qualsiasi creatura chiamata "Gear" contiene un certo numero di cellule Gear.
