The third mass extinction that occurred on Earth during the Phanerozoic Eon. Happened between 258-251 million years ago. It's believed that two mass extinctions occurred relatively close to each other, and caused extinction on the greatest scale in the Earth's history. Up to 96% of sea life died off, and between 90-95% of all species went extinct.
