After losing her entire family in the Crusades, May wandered the battlefield until she was picked up by Johnny, the roguish captain of the Jellyfish pirates. Since joining their crew she has become one of the most important members, and loves her crewmates like a family.
May has immense respect for Johnny, in addition to some other, somewhat more amorous, feelings. She is anxious to become a woman so that he might notice her, but so far has met with little success on that front.
When Ramlethal Valentine appears from nowhere and declares war on the human race, May begins to feel an odd sort of discomfort. Knowing somewhat that Ramlethal is the cause of it, she points the ship eastward, determined to defeat "the bad person who's causing trouble."

A war orphan, she's taken in by the captain of the Jellyfish Pirates, Johnny. She’s since become a key member of the Jellyfish Pirates, herself. She’s one of the few surviving pure-blooded Japanese people.
During the Cradle Incident, she learns about Ramlethal Valentine's declaration of war during Johnny's absence. She heads to Japan to stop Ramlethal but becomes troubled by the discovery of the "disease" she suffers from, one unique to the Japanese. She regains her energetic attitude with the help of Johnny, the Jellyfish Pirates crew, and Chipp. Later, treatment from Faust successfully suppresses the symptoms of the Japanese “disease.”
When Delilah loses control, she plays a part in handling the situation by tethering a giant magic circle with her incredible strength.

Orpheline de guerre, May est recueillie par le capitaine des pirates Jellyfish, Johnny. Elle devient, au fil du temps, une membre clé des pirates Jellyfish. Elle est l'une des dernières survivantes du peuple japonais.
Lors de l'incident du Berceau, elle entend parler de la déclaration de guerre de Ramlethal Valentine alors que Johnny est absent. Elle part pour le Japon pour arrêter Ramlethal, mais se fait rattraper par la "maladie" dont elle souffre, une maladie propre aux Japonais.
