Music videos

Hi. I'll ask you to refrain for uploading so many videos. You can only upload (official) videos than will go on articles. (Which only includes character themes. Also, not every song can have an article, only those that have lyrics.) The wiki is not a place to post the entire albums. The other policy here is, it goes unused, it'll be deleted, which applies for images as well. Mind you, the idea is (was?) to have .ogg files (like the FF Wiki, because of copyright) on the articles. -- ShiroxCloud(talk) 01:41, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

Greetings! I'm actually working on updating the articles at the same time as uploading the videos, so it's not actually attached yet to the articles at the moment, but it should appear once I save them. Shreeder4092 (talk) 02:36, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
Perhaps, I was't clear, but I will revert your edits in the Complete Box page and the supage you just created, since the songs are listed elsewhere (and linked in the article), along with every video that doesn't have an article. I know thses things take time, and I'm truly sorry, but the wiki is NOT the place to upload the albums. -- ShiroxCloud(talk) 02:55, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
Oh ok. I thought it might've been better to divide it into subpages since I thought the whole entire song list might've been too long for the original articles, and it might've been a good idea as well to have the specific songs on there uploaded and from there it can be easily linked to other character articles within the Wikia (I've seen something similar in the Street Fighter Wikia and DMC Wikia so I based it off that). Although now that I've look at the Street Fighter Wikia, I noticed that they changed it from direct video uploads in the gallery to this now. Was this what you were referring to for .ogg files? If so, I think I could actually try doing something like that if that's more preferable. I've never seen this before so the idea of it was unaware to me.
Edit: I forgot to link the DMC Wikia example that I was talking about so I included into it now.Shreeder4092 (talk) 03:10, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
I believe videos should be basically relegated to, maybe, some trailers, the starter guides, and probably Instant Kills; i.e. thing that requires a visual understanding. I'll say, the Street Fighter one is the one I'd prefer between the two, but without the table. However, what I had in mind for our wiki, was to follow the Final Fantasy Wiki's example: If there is an official video as released by ASW or the artist in question, it can/should be included in the article. If not, an audio sample (.ogg and 30 seconds-long only) can be uploaded, like Songs cannot be uploaded in their full length because of licensing. I just... never specified this in our guidelines/policy before now because music was low priority, lel, and I was like, the only ...regular-ish... contributor.
Here's an example I just made with https://www.online-convert.com/ . If you really want to upload samples of all songs, I suppose it won't hurt. In any case, categorize them as [[Category:<game> music samples]] (i.e. Category:Guilty Gear music samples; we could also have, at some point, some voice samples as well) and license them as {{Audio}} on the dropdown bar. Names for tracks with variants should be "<song name> I" (GG) or "<song name> II" (note: IIa for GGX, and IIb for GGXX) or "<song name> III" (GG2); otherwise, "<song name> HR" (eg. for the Heavy Rock tracks). Uh...
But only in the original album they appear. In case of the "new" tracks in the Complete Box, I'll let you know, because I'm not sure. (It doesn't have subpages because it's not necessary to list them all over again when the original albums will do. Otherwise, the external links takes readers to pages where the list is complete.)

Ah the video regulation makes sense ty for the clarification! ArcSystem Works actually just officially uploaded the majority of the Guilty Gear soundtracks online a couple of days ago (so far it's only the XX Korean OST that is missing to my knowledge as well as the other Strive songs. The Korean one might have to wait for a bit I believe?) so in that regard I think it might be fine including the songs here on the wiki articles as long as it is within fair usage and they're properly sourced/linked to the official uploads, but I wouldn't mind including samples to the wiki articles either. Although in regards to the "new" tracks in the Complete Box, ArcSys's official uploads didn't include anything new as they are in the same exact order from the original release. I just mainly thought that it needed subpages at first since I thought listing the entire track list of the Complete Box within the same article might've make it too bloated if it makes sense. So there's no need to worry about any additional "new" tracks. Shreeder4092 (talk) 06:40, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
Ah, I gathered the videos were official. (The albums' articles should probably have an external link to Spotify/elsewhere... 🤔) Still, I meant the official videos we can upload would be like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nmR_MUeATU or the Arcade openings, as in, they are accompanied by visuals.
I think what we should do is, have only music samples of tracks unless it is a vocal theme. e.g "Freesia" won't have a music sample in the album article, instead it has the YoutubeMusic video only in its own article (below the infobox, maybe?). Songs from the vocal and live albums won't appear either as samples or as videos.
I went and did the Guilty Gear Original Sound Collection (Disc 1) music samples so you don't go over them again, heh. You can continue with the others.
When I mean "new", I meant the tracks that appear only in the Complete Box but not the original albums, like the Isuka tracks from the Night of Knives CDs or those in Disc Eight called ギルティギアアレンジトラックス プラス (which, as far as I know, from when I was cleaning up the entire Music category, it doesn't exist as a separate album??? I couldn't find a page in Japanese that wasn't about the Complete Box, so I chalk it up to is just beaing the disc's name). I guess they'll have to be 'properly' listed.🤔 (To clarify: The Complete Box will not have music samples unless it's these "new" tracks not included in the other albums.)

Ah gotcha that makes sense. I acutally did incorporated external links to the YTMusic/Spotify/Amazon Music (Apple Music doesn't seem to have the GG Complete Box set atm but have the other GG songs) so I can continue including them. In terms of music samples though, could that be into other articles as well (such as the Still in the Dark sample being included in both Millia and Zato's article as well as the song article)? It seems like a good idea to attached them into both the character and music articles to help expand on them. The only thing is that the XX Vocal ones didn't get an official upload.
Although, there is an issue in regards to externally linking to the official uploads. In terms of past tracks, ArcSys uploaded it based on the Complete Box collection track list rather than the Guilty Gear Original Sound Collection list, so it can be misleading to do so (such as linking Disc 1 into the GG Original Sound Collection when Disc 1 has a diffferent order) as they didn't upload the original releases. This issue wouldn't apply to the GG2 and GGXrd albums though as they're the exact same to my knowledge, but moreso an issue with the games that preceeds them. Disc 1 and Disc 8 versions also contains different arragements as well despite sharing the same name (for example Disc 1's A Fixed Idea compared to Disc 8's A Fixed Idea)so I was thinking it might be a good idea to still make music samples of songs with identical names as they're not the same arrangement at all, otherwise it can create wrong impressions (and have it differentiated it by inlcuding (Disc 1) and (Disc 8) within the .ogg file name).Shreeder4092 (talk) 19:37, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
So far it's only the Sound Complete Box, and the Xrd soundtrack albums (right?), so only those get external links. The other articles, despite being the basis for the discs, do not get links.
Music samples can indeed be included in the character's and theme's articles. As I said, we won't include either videos/music samples of the vocal versions... unless they get an official release, which I very much doubt.
...Anyway, I've been searching for hours now and, finally, I found the way to display samples without disrupting the appearance too much (although I still have to find an appropiate audio icon directly from the games' UI). But, well, use the template {{listen}}. I'll see later what to do for the themes' articles. Here's is what Chipp's would look like:
And yes, you're right. Disc 8 gets its own samples. -- ShiroxCloud(talk) 03:33, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Ah gotcha. I do apologize for the lateness of my reply as I am currently working on a bunch of college stuff atm such as midterms. Once all of that settles down, I should be able to be freely work on adding the music samples and adding them to the page, but I might make some minor edits here and there such as adding gallery photos. Sounds good? Shreeder4092 (talk) 01:29, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
I think I have some time now to work on it, but it seems like you've already started working on them. Should I leave the rest up to you and then work on other articles or do you still want me to do it?Shreeder4092 (talk) 20:00, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
Ah, no, please do the samples at your leisure. I just wanted to do "Holy Orders" and "Awe Of She" (since they're some of my favorites :P ), but then I found the missing romaji lyrics for theGGX themes on some obscure site (so I took the chance to add the "Samples" sections on the articles), and it just snowballed from there. Sorry for the confusion! -- ShiroxCloud(talk) 20:35, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
Ah gotcha! I'll start working on them this week if possible! Shreeder4092 (talk) 20:41, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Character themes

Hi! Please do not add non-character themes (i.e. the Staff Roll are not character themes, neither are the ending tracks) to the character articles.-- ShiroxCloud(talk) 19:46, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Ah apologies for that. I thought it might've counted since it was listed as their staff role theme but I'll avoid doing so.Shreeder4092 (talk) 19:48, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
No problem! I will add a little thing, and I'm sorry to be so annoying,😅 please make it so that the sample are of no better quality than 96 kbps as that's what our policy dictates. (Unless you've already done many samples already. In that case, it's fine if you upload them as they are.) Honestly I feel awful when I have to correct someone, but well, I do have to 'enforce' wiki standards, so sorry about that. -- ShiroxCloud(talk) 22:35, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
It's fine no worries! I'll do the best that I can! Shreeder4092 (talk) 23:32, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
Say, I just noticed. By 96 kbps, do you mean it would have to be lower than or higher than that number? The [online converter https://loader.to/youtube-ogg-converter.html] that I'm using seems to always convert the .ogg files into around 200-300 kps and I can't really adjust the kps on this one. I tried using the online converter that you linked into this user talk from before, but it doesn't seem to work with YT links. Or am I using the wrong links to convert to that site?Shreeder4092 (talk) 00:08, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
Ah! The thing is, I have most soundtracks downloaded on my computer (three of them are legal, I swear🤣) so that's why I use that converter. I don't know other sites, really. -- ShiroxCloud(talk) 01:52, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
Oh in that regard, would it be fine continuing it the way that I was doing? Shreeder4092 (talk) 03:29, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
...Um, well, sure. I think my way might be faster-ish, though. -- ShiroxCloud(talk) 13:17, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

Videos

Hi! I will ask that you refrain from uploading so many videos to the wiki, since it's not a video repository. They have limited use on articles, as per the media policy. I will be deleting several of them. (This is not a warning, or anything, just a heads-up.) On other hand, thank you for your contributions! -- ShiroxCloud(talk) 21:32, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
