History

After extensive research following the Dawn of Revival, a very specific distillation of magical energy was developed by the UN. Commonly known as Zeal, this compound was quickly supplied to all major cities to aid in the recovery effort. With the introduction of Zeal, fossil fuels quickly lost relevance. Despite its transformative effects, Zeal has only been distributed to UN member nations. In many cases, this has increased economic disparity in depressed regions [1]. International balance did not remain level for long following the discovery of magic and the creation of Zeal. That is because the very definition of energy became synonymous with zeal and Instroments. Thus, a nation's power was then tied to the amount of zeal to which it had access. Though the UN made zeal available to all of its signatory nations, the distribution was not necessarily equal. The amount of Instroment in the world was limited, and how it was distributed varied according to UN votes [2]. During the first year of magic's discovery, China showed signs of withdrawing from the United Nations, but could not ignore the importance of the new form of energy, zeal, and subsequently remained in the Union through talks with the Vatican. Their international relations has improved, and they are now on good terms with the EU. In the 21st century, Russia had an advantage in terms of energy supply, but the development of magic and zeal has completely nullified their edge. While there was a lot of tension in the 21st century with its neighbors, Russia makes the bold decision to participate in the EU (and subsequently Illyrian Kingdom), preserving its position of power in the world [3].

While technologies to produce electricity are permitted, the electric companies do not have the right to transfer any electricity. That is largely due to the fact that zeal is a more efficient and secure way to transport energy. Architecture Buildings made from wooden or stone frames are most common in the world. Steel enforced concrete is reserved for very select organizations around the world [4].

Uses

  • Artificial Light

The main use of Zeal is creating artificial light. Lighting equipment powered by zeal has become the universal standard around the world. People will carry Zilpods around like lanterns, and suspend them from the ceilings of areas they wish to illuminate. Others may place them on top of desks or mount them on walls. In developed nations such as Illyria, these are abundant and easily accessible by the average individual. A Zilpod is a transparent vessel that carries energy, or zeal within it. It is like a mobile battery. By taking advantage of the natural properties of zeal, it is able to illuminate its surroundings. Unlike previous forms of lighting, that required energy to be transferred, Zilpods use the natural properties of zeal, which means turning them off can be troublesome. People must use extreme ways of blocking light, such as shutters. More recent models come with them attached. The size of a Zilpod varies, and the amount of light emitted will also be affected by size. Even smaller devices with high quality zeal can effectively light up an area [5].

  • Climate Control

Zeal stoves are common for climate control in residencies. Constructed residences have such devices pre-installed [6].

  • Power

Zeal batteries are commonly used in portable color-based signaling devices [7]. Zeal also is used to power Spiritas Type 48 capsules, which are, according to Sol Badguy, "A stupidly big battery with poor energy conversion effeciency." These are used to power President Vernon's robotic arm. [8]

  • Writing Utensil

Most modern pencils are made by hardening zeal and turning it into its core. Erasers can be used to remove anything written with these pencils [9].

  • Score

Zeal is a primary medium for recording score, a medium upon which a certain type of magic has been written [10]
