Paris
Paris is a recurring location in the Guilty Gear series. It was Ky Kiske's battle stage from Guilty Gear through Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus R, and became Sol Badguy's as well starting in Guilty Gear X. In Guilty Gear Isuka, Paris is the stage for Millia Rage and Venom.
Paris is the capital of France, which since 2183, is one of the many nations under the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom of Illyria.
Design
In Guilty Gear, Ky's stage is set in a cathedral at nighttime, where a red carpet leading to a central door, guarded by a pair of hooded statues and torchers, adorns the battle area. Two stairways, also adorned with red carpets, lead to the upper floor on both sides. A large bell stands at the mid of the stage. Albeit set in a interior setting, the stage's space is very open, with wide arches leading to the outside along the walls.
In Guilty Gear X, Paris returns in a similar state, albeit with slight changes; the central red carpet is removed, and the central door is open, now guarded by twin angel statues. Suits of armor armed with axes stand below the stairs, and the bell is now gone, with a pipe organ visible in the upper floor, a massive stained glass window behind it. By each stairway, a shattered window on each side can be seen. Guilty Gear Petit features this version of Paris, but the angel statues are replaced by those of Dizzy, and a bust of Kliff Undersn can be seem on both walls.
In Guilty Gear XX, the cathedral is amidst a thunderstorm, with a large hole at the right wall, and a balcony can be seen behind the central doors. Minor traces of electricity can be seen occasionally emitting throughout the stage's floors in the background, mainly on the stairways. Guilty Gear XX Slash presents the aftermath of the storm: the cathedral's walls are broken, letting a large beam of sunlight in, and the floor features a large crack along the main door. The stage is now set at sunrise.
Guilty Gear Isuka uniquely features Paris as a opera theater. A statue of an armored knight and one of a woman support the far balcony, where workers can be seen. A giant chandelier adorns the ceiling, warming the stage in yellow light. The stalls below can be seen, and the stage in the distance shows a play featuring horses and a smiling sun. The curtains for the stage rise along the "Heaven or Hell" battle intro.
Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus features a brand new Paris, with a shiny checkered floor featuring a rotating globe in the center. Huge pillars adorned with armored statues rise to the ceiling, supporting the upper floor. A single staircase in the center leads to a angel statue, surrounded by flags on either side. The whole stage is set inside a spacious dome vault.
Trivia
- In Order-Sol's Story Mode, it is heavily implied to be the main headquarters of the Sacred Order of Holy Knights during the Crusades.[1] The Guilty Gear 10th Memorial Book suggests this as well.
- In Guilty Gear Xtra, this stage is said to be the International Police Force headquarters, and the organ at the back of the stage is shown to be a device capable of controlling a guardian satellite orbiting Earth by channeling magic through music.[2]
- In Guilty Gear Isuka's version of the stage, a background set prop building resembles the building seen in Guilty Gear X's Russia stage.
