Design

The White House Reborn is a stage based on the White House, prominently featured in the Story Mode of Guilty Gear -Strive-. The stage takes place after the events of The White House Siege Incident where Happy Chaos stormed the White House[2][3] with the help of a mind-controlled Nagoriyuki[4], and the activation of Project Tír na nÓg which turned the White House into an air craft.[5]

The opening area of the stage has the players stand outside on a construction platform by a large crane powered by large zeal reserves. Various construction workers can be seen attempting to repair the statue of 16th US President, Abraham Lincoln, that was destroyed by Sol Badguy during a battle[6]. The other three statues on display are of the US Presidents (from left to right) George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Theodore Roosevelt. These four presidents were most likely chosen as statues for this stage due to them being carved into Mount Rushmore. A statue of a Bald Eagle can be found centered above the four presidents. The Washington Monument can be seen in the background of the right of the stage, more prominently visible if the player uses charged Dust follow up to move right.

The area to the right features the the players crashing through the ceiling to enter White House meeting room, where Happy Chaos took the world leaders present at G4 Summit hostage[2]. Entering and exiting this room through both sides will have the respective walls be destroyed for the rest of the match. The meeting room features the same world leaders who were taken hostage during G4, including Daryl, who is being guarded by a Convict Hammer. A large screen showing a broadcast of the current and 76th President Colin Vernon giving a speech accompanied by former and 75th President Erica Bartholomew that is taking place on the area to the left of the match starting position. Two low-detail paintings are in this area, one of a landscape visible behind the table, and the other is only visible for a brief moment if the players cause a Wall-Break to the left, attempting to replicate the style of paintings that depict battles and events of the American Revolutionary War. The grandfather clock in this room displays the time as roughly 11:55am.

The third area takes us outside to the front courtyard of the White House. An aircraft labeled "228X" attempting to land causes the leaves of trees and flags nearby to flow in the wind. The flags feature an altered design of the current real life American flag; having the same red and white strips, but instead of 50 stars in the blue top-left corner to represent each of the 50 states, it contains a gold emblem of a bald eagle surrounded by 13 stars, most likely an homage to the country's original amount of states when the country was founded. Cars, and seemingly a carriage powered by zeal, can be seen in the driveway surrounded by security officers. On the far right, there is a puddle of water that, if ran, jumped off of or landed in will cause water effects to splash up. The puddle itself reflects the clouds and sky above it.

The fourth area takes the players to the other side of the courtyard. Pavement markings on the driveway say "SLOW WH," and a fountain with benches is to the right. A black fire hydrant can be seen next to the benches. Pillars with rotating gear tops can be seen on both sides of the driveway and fountain. A trio of butterflies can be seen underneath the tree to the left of the center pillar.

The fifth area is another indoor location, the entrance hall, and features the same ceiling break mechanics as the meeting room. This room has various low-detail paintings of US Presidents, some of which are harder to spot than others. The Presidents seen here, (in order of their election years), are Lyndon B. Johnson, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. The area is decorated with many chandeliers and candles, with wine bottles and food being set up at the blue clothed tables on the left hand side. Various servers can be seen carrying trays outside including the Guard Bots seen in Story Mode[2] carrying bottles of wine by bouncing them on their heads as they walk. A very large mirror can be seen by the wall next to the tables. The desk positioned under it is at a taller height than any of the servers that past through.

The sixth and final area of the map is once again outside as the broadcasted speech from President Vernon in the meeting room is being held live in the background. As previously stated, Erica Bartholomew is accompanying him. A large crowd is present with government agents in black suits observe from the back rows. The area is directed with blue and white balloons, umbrellas and tables, complimented by a stylized red carpet. The crowd waves and cheers to the President, holding many signs that read "AMERICA WORLD AMERICA", "Let's Rock", "ERiKA[note 1] LOVE", "THANKS President" and "75th PRESIDENT VARNON make playable character!"[note 1]

Trivia

  • In a Q&A from Developer's Backyard Volume 11, Director Daisuke Ishiwatari stated that the idea of having six areas was originally the plan for every stage in the game, but was cut down to three due to the additional work required with "some special exceptions." Art Director Hidehiko Sakamura stated in the same segment that this stage was especially difficult to develop due to its size and the destructible walls.[7]
  • An unfinished, in-development build of White House Reborn was unintentionally included in Strive's map files on launch, showing early concepts for what would eventually become the stage.[8]
