Randy
Randy is a supporting character from Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator-. He is often seen with Zappa in the army.
Personality
Randy does not think too highly of society, but is straightforward at heart and has a clear sense of justice. His dream was to one day become a hero, which the first deployment of "Painkiller" was a failed attempt at. The second, tracking Ariels' whereabouts, made his dream a reality.[1]
Despite working alongside Zappa as a spirit observer, his feelings towards the supernatural are a frequent point of tension between them. Randy calls it "occult," which Zappa disagrees with,[2] and takes the concept of demon summoning lightly.[3]
Randy has a fondness for women and likes discussing cute girls. He was willing to bet money against Zappa agreeing with his claim that Alexis was attractive upon meeting her, and won.[2]
He references laughing at Zappa in the past for his being a nerd and being possessed by occult type stuff, but apologizes for it due to Zappa urging him to change himself for the better.[4]
Story
Guilty Gear Xrd
In Xrd, Randy works for Illyria's homeland security force alongside Zappa observing and recording supernatural goings-on in an area of Finland believed to be spiritually concentrated. Prior to this, he was a hacker who was caught and prosecuted for suspicion of unauthorized access into government servers through the use of his self-developed program, "Painkiller." The reason he was caught, and failed to become a hero, was that it broadcast the signal everywhere except for Randy's own location. This allowed authorities to discover him.[1]
Randy and Zappa refer to their duo as "team rubbish",[2] and "bottom of the barrel".[4] They believe their bottom rung status in Illyria's list of priorities is the reason that their reports and warnings about a huge Information Flare don't receive a hasty reply.[5] Zappa flies to Illyria to deliver their message himself and is recruited to help investigate the Information Flares further.[6]
When Dr. Paradigm and That Man need to track the signal of the Sanctus Maximum, but are stymied by her ability to mask her signal, Zappa calls Randy, asking if he "wants to become a hero."[7] Randy uses his "Painkiller" program to scatter the Sanctus Maximus' signal around the world, allowing them to discover her location as it was the only place the signal couldn't reach.[8]
In the aftermath, Randy and Zappa are invited to a celebration by Daryl which Alexis, Trey, Anders, and Ellsworth also attend. This is the second celebration they've attempted, as the first intended to predominantly feature a pudding of record-breaking size which was destroyed beforehand through unknown means. Randy has a photo of the pudding and its baker, Alyssa, prior to the loss. Randy gives light-hearted responses when the rest of the attendees discuss whether a supernatural being could have been responsible for the accident, and then tries to convince Daryl to drop it when the king calls into question whether it was an accident at all. Another photo is brought to attention, which proves that Randy was, indeed, present at the venue itself. However, Daryl points out that within it, Randy is holding a bottle of castoreum, which is used to add fragrance to pastry. Daryl claims that Randy snuck out during the event to attempt to sneak a bite of the pudding, and after accidentally toppling it grabbed the castoreum while he fled.[3]
Randy explains that he had the bottle because Alyssa had left him a memo asking for him to deliver it to the kitchen. As proof, he pulls the memo out of his pocket, which Trey confirms is written in Alyssa's handwriting. However, Randy also admits that while delivering it, he asked to be paid for his services with a bite of the pudding. Alyssa agreed, which is why a missing bite is visible in the photo Randy took. The clock in the photo reads twenty minutes from when the incident occurred, so Randy's bite could not have caused the collapse.[3]
Later on, it is revealed that Randy is partially responsible for the accident, as Alyssa had asked for the memo back and he, believing he'd misplaced it, had refused. That memo held half of the magic word which Alyssa required to renegotiate with the demon whose assistance she had enlisted for the pudding. Due to the pudding not being completed, all who ate the pudding were subject to the penalty of "blasting fire out of their ass," including Randy.[3]
Guilty Gear -Strive-
By December 2187, following a victorious conclusion to the G4 Summit, Alyssa once again attempts to make her giant pudding with Daryl's backing; upon the dessert's presentation, Zappa, Randy, and the Illyrian operators celebrate her achievement.[9]
