Testament to the succubus[src]

Succubus is a recurring character in the Guilty Gear series, being a single succubus in Guilty Gear X and Guilty Gear XX. It appears as two different sibling succubi in Strive, one pink and one cyan. A magical creature of unknown origin, it is Testament's demon familiar, alongside EXE Beast.[2]

Summoned by Testament's contract,[3][4] it appears during the Phantom Soul and Seventh Sign. Under normal conditions it conceals itself as a crow and hovers near Testament.[5]

In Strive, the succubi reside in the cage held by Testament's scythe. In Testament's intro the pink succubus is eaten by the scythe's skull, turning into a pool of blood that forms into the blade, while the cyan one turns into a crow.

Design

The succubus takes a feminine form with pale skin and two long horns extending from the sides of its head. It has medium length pink hair, pink colored nails, and pink markings along its face, arms, chest, and waist. It wears two dark ankle cuffs and wields a completely black scythe that mirrors the design of Testament's scythe.

In Strive, there are instead two succubi with one keeping the pink coloring while the other is instead cyan. The succubi have much longer hair with the pink covering its right eye and the cyan covering its left eye. The sclera of their eyes is colored black while the iris matches the motif color and have horizontal pupils resembling those of a goat. A layer of black covers their chest, legs, and arms, complemented by bat-like wings.

The succubus' crow form is that of a black crow with red eyes and a silver collar around its neck. In Strive, the collar is removed and the eyes are instead cyan.

Personality

The succubi are dramatic and mischievous, often posing alongside Testament and laughing wickedly during combat. Each has an appreciation for their dear sibling and seems to enjoy being close to one another.

Story

The succubi are called by contract to fight alongside Testament.[3][4]

In Strive, they partake in Testament's leisurely hobbies such as baking and sightseeing.[4]

Abilities

The succubus will take its crow form and fly behind Testament during battle. Once Testament inflicts the Curse condition using their Phantom Soul projectile the crow will tackle forward, dive towards the opponent, fire a line of three feathers, or turn back into a succubus and strike downward with a scythe. During Testament's Instant Kill, Seventh Sign, the succubus will appear to jab their rear hand into the opponent's stomach, hitting them multiple times until the opponent lays lifeless.

In Strive, the succubi are actively called by Testament's special moves. The pink succubus will appear from within Grave Reaper's skull-shaped projectile of blood after it finishes traveling, reaching its hand out from within a pink heart and acting as a marker for both Unholy Diver and Possession. During Unholy Diver the crow can launch itself forward or toward the pink succubus to join hands before both succubi vanish. When Testament performs Nostrovia, the two succubi will grow in size and strike forward in tandem. Both Unholy Diver and Nostrovia can inflict the opponent with Stain State, a tracking purple glow that will cause Testament's next attack to trigger a bright red explosion on contact.

Trivia

  • In Strive, their genders seem to be fluid as during Testament's intro, they can call each other either "dear sister" or "dear brother".
  • Arc System Works' 2025 April Fool's Day event, the pink and blue succubus are respectively listed as 'Succubus A' (サキュバスA, Sakyubasu ei?) and 'Succubus B' (サキュバスB, Sakyubasu bī?).[6]
    • The same event also lists the succubus' crow form seperately from the succubi.[6]
