Chronus is the leader of the Conclave and one of the main antagonists of Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-. He is also one of the Apostles.

Design

Similar to the other three members of the Conclave, he covers his face and body with a metallic mask, a trench coat, and a hat. His mask has the roman numeral 'IV' on it.

Personality

Chronus is the most enigmatic of the Conclave and refuses to express much emotion to even the other members, but it is shown that he cares about them when Baldias is incinerated in Guilty Gear Vastedge XT,[source needed] and when he puts Libraria before himself in Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-.[2].

He is the most expressive during the time he controls Justice, laughing and gloating about his victory.[2]

Story

Background

Chronus alongside Axus, Libraria, Baldias and Asuka R. Kreutz, was one of the Original's five Apostles who spread the arcane knowledge and influence of magic around the world.[3] Then the Apostles (excluding Kreutz) formed the group known as the Conclave with Chronus as their leader, who act as the advisers to the Sanctus Maximus Populis and the UN. Though, in practice, their position is not so much advisory as one of control over the whole of the UN.[4]

Guilty Gear Xrd

Chronus and the rest of the members of the Conclave accomplish the art of resurrection by reviving Zato-ONE and thus bring back Justice with Chronus intending to merge his soul into the Gear so he can use Justice’s power to make the world in the Conclave’s ideals. He nearly succeeds, only to be rejected at the last minute when Paradigm and Dizzy overload Justice by increasing the power output of St. Elmo's Fire with Sol delivering the final blow. But Chronus is teleported out of Justice by Libraria as she dies in his place while he lives on to stop the Universal Will.[2] Found by Faust among the castle wreckage, Chronus finds himself being interrogated about the Japanese and reveals he had no knowledge of it as Faust realizes that someone more influential was manipulating the Conclave's actions.[5]

Chronus is traveling with Faust to the Japanese Colony to meet Johnny and Haehyun.[6] But after that he separated from Faust to find That Man following his capture by Bedman. He eventually reaches the area in Backyard where That Man is contained and cancels the Absolute Defense: Felion holding him, understanding their master’s reasoning for entrusting That Man while advising him to tell Sol the full truth. He then takes his leave while asking him to stop the Universal Will.[7]

Guilty Gear -Strive-

Three weeks later, Chronus continues to travel alongside Faust.[8]

Abilities

Being one of the Original's five Apostles and also being able to activate and deactivate Absolute Defense: Felion,[7] it can assumed that he has a high level of magic power. This is also shown by the fact that he can also enter the Backyard and subsist there for large periods of time.[7]
