Judgment

There was once a man, who preached justice. But justice failed and collapsed like a house of cards, unable to cast light upon darkness. The one most suited to rule over the world is not justice... It's the Judge! My name is... Judgment! I shall bring all sinners to justice...!
― Judgment[src]
Judgment, originally known as Raymond, is the primary antagonist of Guilty Gear Judgment as well as an unlockable playable character. A remorseless and unethical scientist, he kidnaps and experiments on the people of Isene out of a desire to obtain godhood.
Design
As Raymond, he's a tall, pale human man with shoulder-length blond hair and glasses. He wears grey pants and a white dress shirt with a long brown button-up coat overtop.
Upon becoming Judgment, he transforms into a grey-skinned humanoid with glowing red eyes and an orange gem set into his chest just below his collarbone. His hair shortens and spikes upward, and his figure becomes significantly more muscular. In this form, he wears a dark blue coat with orange trim that resembles the outfits worn by the knights of the Sacred Order of Holy Knights, and is bare-chested beneath the coat. Behind him hovers a set of eight bladed metal plates, each adorned with a glowing orange eye and connected to each other by a length of chain, that he can control and transform to use in attacks. The chain linking these plates also wraps around both Raymond's wrists as well as his left ankle.
Personality
Raymond is a scientific genius, but lacks any consideration for morals when conducting his experiments,[2] even going so far as to experiment on large numbers of kidnapped human subjects. Shrewd and intelligent, Raymond specifically chooses Isene as his research site due to its isolation from the outside world, which allows him to conduct his experiments with little initial interference from any government authority.[3][4] He's conceited enough to justify his experiments on the people of Isene as contributions to god's will, and seems to genuinely think that those he kidnaps will be grateful for the privilege of contributing to his research.[3] Raymond sincerely believes that his actions are necessary for the greater good: he feels the world's current time of peace is merely an illusion, and that humanity needs an absolute ruler and arbiter of justice in order to prevent another disaster like the Crusades—a position he believes he is uniquely suited for.[5]
When initially encountered, Raymond acts superficially polite and amicable, though he's quick to backhandedly insult others.[6][7] He takes pride in his breadth of knowledge, and seems to particularly enjoy researching others' pasts for the sake of bringing up painful memories or emotionally manipulating them: he taunts Sol with knowledge of the Gear Project,[8] Millia Rage with her history with Angra,[9] and calls Potemkin by the number he was assigned as a slave,[10] among other things.
After absorbing Inus and taking the role of Judgment, Raymond reveals the full extent of his megalomaniac personality, declaring himself the humanity's new ruler and announcing his plans to judge all those he deems as sinners. In this form he considers himself all-powerful, and when the flaws in his plan are revealed to him he denies to the bitter end that he could have made a mistake; however, in his very last moments, his demeanor begins to slip, and with his final breaths he begs the player character for help as he's consumed by his own power.[5]
Story
Judgment was originally Raymond, the lead scientist of the Eastern European kingdom of Villtania and a former member of the Sacred Order of Holy Knights. He worked on the remote island of Isene, exploiting its inhabitants and trying to create a weapon that could surpass even the Gears by researching monsters, and believed his work to be the work of God, although he was conducting unholy experiments. Later, when the player's character confronted Raymond, he was devoured by Inus, the dark king of the underworld, after which Inus was eventually killed when the player defeated him. This allowed Raymond to absorb his power to become Judgment. However, since Inus wished to remain dead, Judgment was eventually consumed after he was defeated.
Abilities
With the powers of the king of hell at his disposal, Judgment is potentially one of the strongest characters in the series, though due to his lack of battle experience, has not been able to fully tap into the vast reserves of magic at his disposal. In battle, he wields an array of steel plates which he can either use with his mind or hands. He can also fuse these plates and transform them into a mighty sword to cleave his enemies with one swing. His magic comes in the form of large energy spheres and charging forward engulfed in a powerful aura and erecting swords of magic from the ground. He also had to the abiilty to warp reality such as tearing holes in the dimensional fabric to create portals or erecting an immense castle fortress for himself simply with his will.
While Judgment is featured as the final boss of Guilty Gear Judgment, he can also be unlocked as a playable character by collecting eight letters in the second to last stage of the game that spell out "J-U-D-G-M-E-N-T". His attacks are slow, but devastating, and cover a wide area. He is also the only character in the entire game with the ability to block attacks.
