Roger
Roger is a supporting character in the Guilty Gear series. He is one of the things Bridget values the most and serves as her weapon. Often taking the form of a red yo-yo, Roger is capable of independent operation fueled by magic and can also increase his size, pull out a saw from inside himself, or even ride a flaming bike known as Killmachine.[2] Despite Roger's voice being incongruous with his adorable appearance, he is overwhelmingly popular and has a series of plushies modeled after him. It is also said that he despises being compared to a Gear and will become quite violent towards anyone who refers to him as such.[2]
According to the Guilty Gear Codex[3] and Guilty Gear 10th Memorial[4] books, Daisuke Ishiwatari once said that Roger was similar to S-Ko in that he is a ghost-like being that possessed a teddy bear and, by settling into it, became a sort of tsukumogami. It's implied that Roger may once have been an ancient warrior like Raoh based on his behavior and pretentious way of speaking.[3]
Personality
Roger is a frightening being, often than not, saying often disturbing things to whoever falls within their clenches. Despite these things, he has shown to have a soft spot for Bridget, being carefree and playful towards her. [5]
Allusions
- He is likely named after Roger Taylor, the drummer for Queen.
- When using the Overdrive "Return of the Killing Machine" in Strive, his pose mimics the album art for Painkiller by the English heavy metal band Judas Priest.
- One of his voice lines for the same move is "Roger, Roger", the catchphrase of the Battle Droids from the Star Wars franchise.
Trivia
- Based on concept art from Guilty Gear Vastedge, the yo-yo appears to be loaded with 6 rounds of hollow point revolver bullets, presumably .357 or .44 Magnum.
