Fireseal is Sol Badguy's signature weapon and one of the "Sacred Treasures" that comprise the Outrage. The weapon itself is capable of magnifying fire magic, which Sol uses to augment both his physical and sword attacks.

Design

In Guilty Gear, Guilty Gear X & Guilty Gear XX it appears as an uniquely designed sword with a rectangular and blunt blade, which features a crossguard shaped similarly to a butane lighter, even having a striking wheel and breeze guard, that spews forth flames.

In Overture, the Fireseal appears in 3 different distinct appereances, which are labeled "LV'" in the game's concept art:

  • LV1 is a large sword, with a large rectangular blunt blade similar to its original appereance, but it has no clear handguard.
  • LV2 gains an oversized handguard made of 1 red rectangle on each side, the blade gains a red part over the blade & the blade becomes car key shaped.
  • LV3 has the sword's red parts on the handguard & on the blade being more detailed compared to LV2. The blade's point now is wheel shaped.
  • In addition to these 3, during Dragon Install the Fireseal turns into a sword shaped pillar of fire.

Story

In 2073, Sol Badguy built an anti-Gear weapon, the Outrage, in response to news of Justice's completion.[1] However, he found the weapon's immense power impossible to handle and so separated it into eight pieces, creating the Fireseal as well as seven other weapons that collectively became known as the Sacred Treasures.[2] Several of these weapons, including the Fireseal, eventually ended up in the possession of the United Nations and the Sacred Order of Holy Knights.[3]

Circa 2173, Sol—who had joined the Holy Order in search of information and to combat Gears from the frontlines—challenged Justice on its own. His suppressed powers weren't enough to defeat her, and she spared his life out of fascination at his recklessness. After, Sol reflected that he indeed needed the Fireseal after all and decided to "borrow" it.[4]

He was surprised in the act by Ky Kiske, who dueled him to take the Sacred Treasure back, but Sol defeated Ky with his newly-acquired weapon. Commander Kliff Undersn saw them, but, knowing Sol's nature, let him be and asked Ky to keep the incident a secret.[5] Kliff later caught up with Sol and allowed him to have the Fireseal, as Kliff was going to give it to him anyway. After a friendly duel, Kliff let Sol go, telling him that he was family even if he had just deserted the Order.[4] Eventually, Sol put the Fireseal to good use and fought Justice a second time, after Justice had fled from an attack led by Kliff and Ky. Sol was able to defeat the weakened Justice, and she was then imprisoned within a dimensional seal by the Order. With her defeat, the Crusades came to an end.[6] Sol did not return the sword, making it his personal weapon ever since.[3]

During the events of Baptisma 13, Sol upgraded the Fireseal multiple times.

Sol would later add an additional casing to the Fireseal to amplify its powers, transforming it into the Junkyard Dog MK II. After some time, Sol incorporated the Flashing Fang into an another modified casing for the Fireseal, upgrading the weapon into the Junkyard Dog MK III.[source needed]

Trivia

  • Sol wields the Fireseal in a reversed grip, in addition to using it in his left hand, which may be a nod to Freddie Mercury's mic stand grip, as Queen are Daisuke Ishiwatari's favourite band[7] and other elements of Sol's character reference both Mercury and the band.[8]
  • The overall design of Fireseal is based upon a gas lighter, featuring a wheeled mechanism which ignites sparks.
  • Fireseal can be seen on a table in Arakune's gag ending in Blazblue: Continuum Shift.
