Black Technology
Black Techology is the term that refers to a set of technology and science that is forbidden in Guilty Gear.
In the 21st century, the urgency to preserve the environment became critical and forced scientists to discover alternate methods of technological advancement. With the occurrence of the Dawn of Revival banning all electronic technologies and the discovery of magic in 2010, mainstream science began to be taken over by magical science. Eventually, mainstream technology was banned by the UN and the term "Black Tech" was coined. [1] IPF began regulating technology, penalizing people who are sold, used, owned, or spread knowledge of Black Tech. In the Guilty Gear X Drama CD, a drunk Axl who mentioned E=MC^2 was almost arrested by the police.[2] The only exception to this policy is the nation of Zepp. However even with these regulations, certain groups like the Conclave and Post-War Administration Bureau seem to have obtained Black Tech through unknown means, including old guns like revolvers, though they are only used by a few individuals in said groups.[3]
The ban on technology eventually resulted in the creation of magi-tech to replace conventional technology. Things like firearms and vehicles are now powered by magic; the US infantry is shown to carry magic rifles, and the US president is transported in a magic-powered limo.[4] During the Gear Project, scientist Frederick Bulsara was shown using the programming language known as ROSE, a hybrid of Magic and Black Tech. Aria calls it outdated, implying that Magic Tech was already around and in public use by the 2010s.[5] It also implies that an alternative was created using hybrid tech during the time Black Tech was banned until Magic Tech was created. According to the Guilty Gear Bible, The Outrage was also made using Magic alongside old Black Technology.
Zepp has created more hybrid technologies in recent years, including things like the Vagilanda, a gigantic missile with the cruising speed of 11,632 mph which allowed Sol to arrive at the Cradle Incident with never-before-seen speed and accuracy,[6] as well as Vidia, the prototype Mech that Potemkin used to stop Tír na nÓg from moving forward to Old Mexico.[7]
It is possible that Black Tech might be more dangerous than Magic, as the few times it is shown being used, such as Ky Kiske nearly being killed by Axus with just a few shots from a old Revolver,[3] and IPF soldiers manufacturing Black Tech weapons with the knowledge in the Gold Disks and nearly killing Sol Badguy and Ky, only being stopped by Sol's Dragon Install.[8] Zepp's Black Tech may be even more dangerous due to how advanced it is, as seen on the Stages and artwork related to it having gigantic robots and large airships like the May Ship, along with Potemkin's gauntlet's and armor being able to create energy shields and act as propulsors.
