Tome of Origin
The Tome of Origin. As the name would imply, everything sprang forth from its pages. This book makes anything possible. It granted magic to mankind. Crafted our future. And with it, the risk of our downfall.
― That Man[src]
The Tome of Origin is a book that The Original sealed the essence of the Backyard into, long before the events of the Guilty Gear series.

Design
The Tome of Origin is a thick book, bound in leather, with intricate designs stamped into its front and back cover. The corners of the book are covered by metal, and the book's front cover is decorated with a large metal emblem featuring a pair of gears. This metal is tarnished and appears silver in Guilty Gear Xrd but gold in Guilty Gear -Strive-.
The Tome of Origin features several pieces of text in its design. "Backyard" is stamped on the book's spine and carved into the very center of the emblem on the book's cover. Written on the larger gear is the text "Thou wilt never know all, nor wilt all ever know thou." repeated twice, and beneath it is the text "The Universe is Thou Burden" above an unknown symbol.
Story
Sometime in 20th century, a man now only known as The Original—who would go on to lay the foundation for what would become the study of magic[1]—discovered the existence of the Backyard. Somehow he managed to enter this realm and return, though he realized that "No evil should touch this place." The Original then sealed all that the Backyard was into a single tome, hoping that mankind would never stumble upon its power.[2]
It is revealed in Guilty Gear -Strive- that Asuka fused the Tome of Origin with himself in order to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.[3] The version of the book Asuka fights with in Strive is an identical replica of the Tome that he handcrafted to fool Happy Chaos.
Trivia
