Durandal Call (デュランダルコール, Dyurandaru Kōru?) is Ky's unique mechanic used throughout the Guilty Gear Xrd series.

Before Durandal Call can be used, Ky first has to set a Grinder (グラインダー, Guraindā?), done by using either neutral or aerial Dust, or using Split Ciel. The Grinder stays in place for 5 seconds before disappearing. Within that time, Ky can use any version of Stun Edge or Sacred Edge, making the aforementioned projectiles become Fortified, modifying their appearance, increasing the damage output and changing the properties of the Stun Edge.

After using Durandal Call, the Grinder will disappear and will need to be set again.

The Shock State (帯電状態, Taiden Shōtai?) is a unique status effect Ky can afflict in Guilty Gear -Strive-.

Shock State can be inflicted by using Stun Edge, Dire Eclat & Sacred Edge. If either of these attacks connect with the opponent, whether they guard against them or not, the opponent will glow with yellow sparks for 2 seconds.

While in this state, the aforementioned attacks - as well as his other Special Attacks - will deal more damage all around. If Ky uses Vapor Thrust, Stun Dipper, Foudre Arc or Ride the Lightning, the opponent will come out of Shock State.

Ky cannot inflict Shock State while in Dragon Install.

Stun Edge (スタンエッジ, Sutan Ejji?) is Ky's signature projectile. First seen in Guilty Gear.

Ky swipes his sword horizontally, creating a small electrical projectile that travels in a straight line. When used in the air, it travels diagonally.

GGML

In its original incarnation, Ky can can charge Stun Edge by inputting DownDown RightRight + holding Respect instead of Slash or Heavy Slash. The level 1 versions deal a small amount of damage. The level 2 versions deal a moderate amount of damage and slightly increases the size of the projectile. The level 3 versions drastically lengthens and widens the projectile; the Slash version can hit up to 8 times and cause an instant stun, while the Heavy Slash version can hit up to 4 times and travels faster, though it cannot cause a stun.
The aerial version of Stun Edge is not affected by charging.

GGX & XX

Starting with Guilty Gear X, the aerial version of Stun Edge gains a Heavy Slash variant, which travels at a longer angle compared to the Slash version.

Additionally, despite charging not returning, Heavy Slash Stun Edge becomes Charged Stun Edge (スタンエッジ・チャージアタック, Sutan Ejji: Chāji Atakku?, lit. Stun Edge: Charge Attack). Instead of throwing it out straight away, Ky charges his blade before swinging it. While this edition of Charged Stun Edge does deal more damage and hit up to 3 times, it does leave Ky wide open to attack.

Between Guilty Gear XX Slash & ΛCPR, Charged Stun Edge's button would be swapped from Heavy Slash to Dust, though this does not make it a Force Break - the moves it can lead into afterwards are Force Breaks, however. Following Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-, it would return to Heavy Slash, though this only applies to the ground version.

Additionally in the Guilty Gear XX series, Charged Stun Edge can also be used in the air, though the follow-ups for the grounded version do not apply.

GGXrd

Even with Charged Stun Edge at his disposal, Ky can further power up his Stun Edge projectiles with Grinders - should a Stun Edge projectile pass through a Grinder, it becomes Fortified, increasing its effective range and the damage dealt.

In Guilty Gear -STRIVE-, Stun Edge changes color from blue to orange. Should Stun Edge connect with the opponent, whether they guard it or not, they get afflicted with the Shock State. For the following 5 seconds, all of his Special Attacks gain a damage boost.

Vapor Thrust (ヴェイパースラスト, Veipā Surasuto?) is Ky's signature anti-air attack. First seen in Guilty Gear.

Ky swings his sword around in a counter-clockwise circle while jumping, then flips backwards as he falls. Between Guilty Gear XX Λ Core up to ΛCPR, Ky would gain the follow-up of Lightning Javelin (ライジングジャベリン, Raijingu Jaberin?, lit. Rising Javelin), where Ky swings his unequipped arm horizontally to create a short lightning bolt. If it connects, it causes a wall bounce.

In the case of EX Ky, this would be changed in place of Slash Through (斬り払い, Kiriharai?, lit. Pruning), where Ky does a horizontal slash that launches his opponent again. This would also be used for Grand Vapor Thrust.

While the Slash version of Vapor Thrust remains the same in Guilty Gear -STRIVE-, the Heavy Slash version has been modified to have Ky rise diagonally upwards while travelling forwards. While stronger, it has longer recovery and it can't be Roman-Cancelled if it whiffs.

Additionally, both versions of Vapor Thrust gain a damage boost if the opponent has been afflicted with the Shock State.

Stun Dipper (スタンディッパー, Sutan Dippā?) is one of Ky's staple Special Attacks. First seen in Guilty Gear.

Ky slides across the ground, outstretching his front leg to kick his opponent's shins, then follows up with a low horizontal slash to trip the opponent.

In Guilty Gear -STRIVE-, Stun Dipper launches the opponent slightly, and gains a damage boost if the opponent has been afflicted with the Shock State.

Needle Spike (ニードルスパイク, Nīdoru Supaiku?) was first introduced in the original Guilty Gear, omitted in the Guilty Gear X series, and last seen in Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus R as EX Ky.

Ky slashes his opponent overhead, then flips over for an overhead roundhouse kick with his front leg, causing a hard knockdown.

As EX Ky, holding the Kick button while on the ground swaps out the kick for Greed Sever. If he uses Needle Spike in the air, it completely omits the initial slash, going straight into the kick.

Crescent Slash (クレッシェントスラッシュ, Kuresshento Surasshu?) was first introduced in Guilty Gear X, and last seen in Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus R as EX Ky.

Ky turns to face away from his opponent, then does a reverse flip-kick/slash combo that launches his opponent, simultaneously striking them with a short bolt of lightning from the sword's tip.

Greed Sever (グランドヴァイパー, Gurīdo Sebā?) was first introduced in Guilty Gear X, and last seen in Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2.

Ky leaps high and swings his sword overhead, which trails with blue-and-green afterimages of the blade. If it connects, it causes a ground bounce.

As EX Ky in the Guilty Gear XX series following Λ Core, holding Kick during Needle Spike, it will begin with the slash as normal, then it transitions into Greed Sever.

Grand Vapor Thrust (グランドヴェイパースラスト, Gurando Veipā Surasuto?) was first introduced in Guilty Gear XX, and last seen in Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus R. Exclusive to EX Ky.

Taking a page out of Sol's book - in this case, Ground Viper, Ky rushes towards his opponent to slash his opponent's legs - should Ky be close enough to the opponent, he will traverse through them; following that, Ky transitions into Vapor Thrust.

Elegant Slash (エレガントに斬る, Ereganto ni Kiru?) was first introduced in Guilty Gear XX, and last seen in Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus R. Exclusive to EX Ky.

Taking a page out of Sol's book - in this case, Wild Throw, Ky crosses his unequipped hand under his other. If he's close to his opponent, he slashes them upwards with a Crescent Slash, launching his opponent.

Split Ciel (スプリットシエル, Supuritto Shieru?, lit. Split Heavens (In French.)) was first introduced in Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-, and last seen in Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2.

Ky steps forward and slams his unequipped hand down overhead, setting a Grinder.

Should Stun Edge or Sacred Edge pass through the Grinder, the projectile becomes Fortified, modifying the appearance, as well as increasing the damage output and changing the properties of the Stun/Sacred Edge.

Foudre Arc (フードルアーク, Fūdoru Āku?, lit. Lightning Arc (In French.)) was first introduced in Guilty Gear -Strive-, replacing Greed Sever.

Akin to its predecessor, Ky leaps forward to attack overhead. However, instead of using his sword, Ky flips over as he jumps to turn upside down, kicking his opponent overhead. While it doesn't hit overhead, Ky gets enough height to avoid low attacks.

Foudre Arc also gains a damage boost if the opponent has been afflicted with the Shock State.

Dire Eclat (ダイアエクラト, Daia Ekurato?, lit. Dire Glow (In French.)) was first introduced in Guilty Gear -Strive-.

Ky slashes his opponent overhead with his blade imbued with electricity, making his opponent slide back on a successful hit. If it connects, whether the opponent blocks it or not, they will be afflicted with the Shock State; Dire Eclat will deal more damage while the opponent is in the state too.

Lightning Sphere (ライトニングスフィア, Raitoningu Sufia?) was first introduced in Guilty Gear XX Λ Core, and last seen in Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus R.

Before Charged Stun Edge comes out, Ky can transition into Lightning Sphere, where he makes the Stun Edge erupt into a stationary electrical sphere that hits the opponent up to 3 times. Furthermore, Ky can follow-up with Charge Drive (チャーチドライブ, Chāji Doraibu?), having him thrust sword into his opponent's middle, blasting them to the back end of the screen.

Stun Raising (スタンレイズ, Sutan Reizu?, lit. Stun Raise) was first introduced in Guilty Gear XX Λ Core, and last seen in Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus R.

Using the index & middle fingers on his unequipped hand, Ky swings his arm down to set a star-shaped electrical projectile that lingers in the air for 3 seconds before disappearing. If it connects with the opponent, it hits them twice.

Greed Sever (グランドヴァイパー, Gurīdo Sebā?) was first introduced - and last seen in Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus R. Exclusive to regular Ky.

Ky leaps forward and swings his sword overhead, which trails with blue-and-green afterimages of the blade. While this travels a shorter distance and with less height than the normal version, it comes out a lot faster and causes a hard knockdown.

Lightning Strike (ライトニンストライク, Raitoningu Sutoraiku?) was first introduced in Guilty Gear XX Λ Core, and last seen in Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus R. Exclusive to EX Ky.

Using the index & middle fingers on his unequipped hand, Ky swipes his arm down to create a lightning bolt that strikes the opponent. Unlike the original version, which can only be done on a grounded opponent, this can be used while the opponent is standing up, and the lightning bolt can track their position.

Ride the Lightning (タイランレイヴ, Tairan Reivu?) is Ky's signature offensive Overdrive. First seen in Guilty Gear.

GGML

In the vast majority of appearances, Ky shrouds his body with a sphere made of electrical energy while charging towards his opponent in a straight line. Starting with Guilty Gear XX, Ky can use Ride the Lightning in the air.

Between the original Guilty Gear and ΛCPR, 4 smaller spheres orbit around Ky within the sphere. As of Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-, the orbs would be replaced by a seal/barrier in front of Ky.

In Guilty Gear -STRIVE-, Ky adds a slash at the end of the attack. Additionally, if the last hit of Ride the Lightning hits the opponent in the corner, it causes an Area Shift.

File:GGXX Ride the Lightning EX.png
EX Ky's Ride the Lightning
In the Guilty Gear XX series, EX Ky's version of Ride the Lightning is modified so that Ky releases a large sphere of electricity in front of him, not unlike Lightning Sphere.

Sacred Edge (セイクリッドエッジ, Seikuriddo Ejji?) was first introduced in Guilty Gear XX.

GGXX

File:GGXX Sacred Edge.gif
Guilty Gear XX series
Ky draws a circle with his unequipped hand, then throws out a blade made of electrical energy that travels in a straight line, hitting the enemy up to 5 times.

EX Ky's version in the Guilty Gear XX series delays the initial flight by a second before travelling as normal. Additionally, EX Ky can use Sacred Edge in the air, which also travels in a straight line.

GGXrd

If Sacred Edge passes through a Grinder, it becomes Fortified, reaching full-screen at a (potentially) shorter distance, and increases its damage outpit.

GGST

File:GGST Sacred Edge.png
Guilty Gear -STRIVE-
Like Stun Edge, Sacred Edge's color was changed from blue to yellow, and it also afflicts the Shock State. Furthermore, Sacred Edge will deal more damage while the opponent is in the state too.

If Sacred Edge is used in the corner, it causes an Area Shift.

Dragon Install (ドラゴンインストール, Doragon Insutōru?) was first introduced in Guilty Gear -Strive-.

Guilty Gear -STRIVE-
With 50% Tension and Ky's health at 30% or lower, he can go into Dragon Install. Upon activation, Ky makes a burst of energy to knock his opponent back if they're close enough.

While in the state, Ky's run speed is drastically increased and the properties of Ky's Special and Overdrive Attacks are improved;

  • Both the ground & aerial versions of Stun Edge hit twice and can negate any regular single-hit projectile.
  • Charged Stun Edge hits 5 times.
  • Both versions of Vapor Thrust launch the opponent at a sharper angle.
    • The Slash version hits the opponent twice.
    • The Heavy Slash version hits the opponent 3 times.
  • Stun Dipper adds a second hit to the slash, causing a hard knockdown.
  • Foudre Arc hits the opponent twice and deals more damage.
  • Dire Eclat hits the opponent 3 times and makes the opponent slide further back.
  • Ride the Lightning hits the opponent 8 times, then follows up with a 3-hit slash at the end.
  • Sacred Edge hits the opponent 8 times.

Ky cannot inflict the Shock State to opponents while in Dragon Install, though unlike Sol's iterations of Dragon Install (minus Dragon Install 2nd), Ky's Dragon Install lasts the rest of the round.

Zwei Voltage (ツヴァイボルテージ, Tsuvai Borutēji?, lit. Two Voltage (In German.)) is Ky's first Instant Kill, first - and last appearing in Guilty Gear.

Ky slashes his opponent twice in a cruciform pattern, creating a cross made of electrical energy that disperses into four other crosses - one for each cardinal direction. Once they disappear, the opponent is out for the count.

Rising Force (ライジング・フォース, Raijingu Fōsu?) is Ky's second - and last Instant Kill, first appearing in Guilty Gear X and last appearing in Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2.

In its original appearance, Ky sharply stabs his opponent in the heart with an electrically-charged sword.

In the Guilty Gear Xrd series, Ky starts by slashing his opponent overhead. If it connects, he recites a prayer while preparing his attack. Once he finishes, a seal with "HOPE" appears before Ky as he begins advancing towards his opponent, finishing them off with the stab. An outline of a female angel appears behind them both as Ky's sword connects with his opponent.
