Story

Background

In order to save Justice[1] and I-No, That Man created two Jack-O' units to make them both human again:[2] one unit would return Aria Hale to humanity,[1] while the other was meant to save I-No, whom he thought would pose a threat if she were to awaken. This second unit was given the name "Happy Chaos". Its existence was a secret shared between That Man, Jack-O', and Raven only. For unknown reasons, while Jack-O' was completed, That Man never finished making Happy Chaos.[2]

Guilty Gear Xrd

When Raven retrieves Jack-O' and returns with her to the Sanctuary, he says that revealing I-No's origins as a Magical Foci wasn't part of the plan. Jack-O' replies with that since she awakened earlier, she'd tell I-No earlier as well. She then realizes that it means that Happy Chaos isn't awake either. Raven expresses his surprise that there is a contingency for if the Flame of Corruption loses: In the worst case scenario, the matter of I-No will take precedence.[3] However, it never comes to that.[4]

Unbeknownst to them, a mysterious figure overhears the conversation. He finds the name interesting to the point of starting using the name for himself.[3]

Guilty Gear -Strive-

Three weeks later after the battle at the Celestial Altar, I-No steals something from Ariels[5] and lets herself be captured by Illyrian soldiers, letting her partner-in-crime—who introduces himself as Happy Chaos to Sol Badguy during a highway confrontation—go free.[6] After a fruitless attempt to interrogate her by Sol and Ky Kiske, they turn to Jack-O' for answers. This leads to Jack-O' bringing up the situation regarding her and Happy Chaos' creation, as well as I-No's origins and discovery by The Original, which leads them to think that I-No wants the Tome of Origin for her goals.[2]

Trivia

  • Prior to Strive's release, it was initially believed that the mysterious voice was the Happy Chaos unit, which led to speculation that it was an insane copy of Jack-O' Valentine. However, the game's Story Mode clarified that the unit and Happy Chaos only shared the name, with a later interview with Ishiwatari clarifying as well that they are different characters.[7]
